Dr. Al-Arabi obtained his dental degree from the University of Tishreen, Syria in 1996. He received his training in Orthodontics and Dento-Facial Orthopedics at the University of Aix-Marseille II earning a Certificate of Special Studies in Clinical Orthodontics (CECSMO) in 2002, and is a former member of the French Society of Dento-Facial Orthopedists and the French Society of Bioprogressive. Dr. Al-Arabi joined the faculty at Jacksonville University in July 2003. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists.

Ms. Andrews is a nationally recognized speaker, author and educational consultant and has written more than 80 peer-reviewed articles. She received her B.S.D.H. from University of Southern California, where she was later a clinical instructor. Ms. Andrews practiced clinical Dental Hygiene for 20 years. She has consulted with individual and large dental facilities, dental laboratories and dental corporations on clinical safety and OSHA compliance. She has given seminars nationally and internationally on topics including Diseases and Infection Prevention, Biofilms, and Dental Waterlines and also participated in the drafting of the OSAP Position Paper on Dental Unit Waterlines. Dr. Balanoff received his dental degree from Northwestern University and his masters in craniofacial research from Nova Southeastern University. He is an adjunct assistant clinical professor at University of Tennessee and a former assistant clinical professor at Nova Southeastern University teaching postgraduate prosthodontics; specifically implant surgery and reconstruction to the prosthodontic residents. Dr. Balanoff is the owner of a multilocation fee for service group practice in the south Florida area. Ms. Bednarsh is the Director of HIV Dental for the Boston Public Health Commission and has participated in local, regional, national and international programs on infection control and HIV/AIDS. Dr. Steven D. Bender received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1981 from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1986. He practiced general and restorative dentistry in Plano, Texas until 2000. In 1999, he began studying in a mini-residency program at the Parker E. Mahan Facial Pain Center, University of Florida College of Dentistry where he received advanced training in orofacial pain and temporomandibular joint disorders. He also completed postgraduate dental education training at the L.D. Pankey Institute and the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study. In 2001 he received a certificate of completion in Orofacial Pain from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He also completed a miniresidency program in Headaches, sponsored by Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2003. Since 2001, Dr. Bender has maintained a private practice devoted to pain management of the head, face, oral cavity and TMJ. He has earned fellowship in the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and the International Academy of Oral Oncology. He serves as a reviewer for three journals: Headache, Cephalalgia, and The Journal of Musculoskeletal Pain and General Dentistry. He also currently serves as an evidence reviewer for the American Dental Association. Dr. Bender’s current areas of research and study include difficult headaches, neuropathic pain mechanisms, and sleep disorders.

Dr. Alan A. Boghosian is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Dental Surgery of the Department of Surgery, at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine where he coordinates clinical research investigations. Dr. Boghosian maintains a private practice in downtown Chicago devoted primarily to restorative dentistry. He has authored numerous publications and has lectured internationally on the subjects of dental materials and restorative procedures. Dr. Boghosian is a member of the International Association of Dental Research and a Fellow in the American College of Dentists and Academy of Dental Materials. Dr. Burgess is an active investigator on clinical trials evaluating posterior composites, adhesives, fluoride releasing materials, impression materials and class 5 restorations. Dr. Robert A. Danforth is a board certified oral pathologist whose career has generally been directed toward oral radiology education. He has taught dental radiography since 1979 in three dental schools and has been involved with the dental radiography laboratory service since 1984. He first introduced intraoral and panoramic digital radiography into his oral radiology teaching courses in 1999 and, in addition, has given multiple continuing education courses on digital imaging. He was the contributing editor for the California Dental Association Journal December 1999. “New Millennium” issue, which completely featured digital Oral and Maxillofacial imaging as the new age in dentistry. Dr. Florman is the Executive Program Director for PennWell, a national dental continuing education organization. He is also an active clinical advisor to many pharmaceutical and dental companies. He is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and the American Association of Orthodontists. Stuart J. Froum, DDS is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He earned his dental doctorate from New York University College of Dentistry after graduating with a BA from Brooklyn College. Dr. Froum then completed a general dentistry internship at Brooklyn Veterans Administration Hospital and a periodontal residency at New York Veterans Administration Hospital.

Currently, Dr. Froum is a Clinical Professor of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry and the Director of Clinical Research (Department of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry) at New York University Dental Center. He is also a clinical assistant professor in periodontics at the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Froum is a Trustee of the American Academy of Periodontology and sits on the editorial review board of Middle East Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is on the research committee of the American Academy of Osseointegration and the continuing education oversight committee of the American Academy of Periodontology, who recently awarded him an honor.

Dr. Manish Garala received his dental degree in 1996 from Turner Dental School, University of Manchester, England. Between 1996 and 1999, he successfully completed his Vocational and General Dental Practitioner Degrees at Hope Dental Practice, Manchester, England. During this time, he developed a strong passion for endodontics, which led him to pursue a career as an endodontic specialist. He completed his Postgraduate Degree in Endodontics at Nova Southeastern University, Florida in 2002, with a Master of Science in Education.

Dr. Garala has been in private practice in Houston, Texas, since 2002, and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He is a committee member for the GHDS and the AAE, and serves on the Advisory Council on Endodontics for Sybron Endodontics.

Dr. Garala has lectured globally, most notably at AAE Annual Meetings (2002-2004), (2008) IFEA (2001), and the Academy of General Dentistry (2007). He has written scientific papers for the International Endodontic Journal and the Journal of Endodontics, examining root canal preparation using Nickel Titanium systems. He has authored a chapter discussing canal preparation objectives for Dr. John McSpadden’s comprehensive text, “Mastering Root Canal Preparation”. He has recently achieved the status of Diplomate in Endodontics, following successful completion of examinations from the American Board of Endodontics. Dr. Garala also maintains specialist list credentials for the specialty of Endodontics in Europe as well as memberships with the AAE, ADA, TDA, GHDS, and the International Federation of Endodontic Associations.

Dr. Hefferren graduated from Loyola University, Chicago in 1950 with a BS in chemistry with mathematics and physics minors. Dr. Li is an Associate Professor in the Analytical Chemistry, College of Chemistry, Peking University, Beijing, China. Her focus has been spectroscopy with emphasis on fluorescence and phosphorescence. Her work with me has been on developing and verifying laboratory models to predict the clinical functionality of oral care agents. Our collaboration has been on developing and characterizing enamel surface changes resulting from exposure to acids. Exposure causes increased surface fragility and porosis from one perspective, but this situation sets up the opportunity to restore the surface in perhaps a more functional manner to combat the rigors of the daily reactive oral milieu. Dr. Na Li received her BS in chemistry at Peking University. She received her MS and Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the College of Chemistry when she focused on spectroscopy. She was a postdoctoral student in Bioanalytical Chemistry, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, University of Kansas, Lawrence.

He then completed a dental internship and residency in anesthesiology at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in the Bronx, New York, before serving for two years in the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Fort Knox, Kentucky. In 1973, Dr. Malamed joined the faculty at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in Los Angeles, where today he is professor and chair of the Section of Anesthesia and Medicine. Dr. Malamed is also a diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology, as well as a recipient of the Heidebrink Award (1996) from the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and the Horace Wells Award from the International Federation of Dental Anesthesia Societies, 1997 (IFDAS). Dr. Malamed has authored more than 85 scientific papers and 16 chapters in various medical and dental journals and textbooks in the areas of physical evaluation, emergency medicine, local anesthesia, sedation, and general anesthesia. In addition, Dr. Malamed is the author of three widely used textbooks, published by CV Mosby Inc: Handbook of Local Anesthesia (4th edition, 1997) and Sedation: A Guide to Patient Management (3rd edition, 1995). In his spare time, Dr. Malamed is an avid runner and exercise enthusiast, and admits an addiction to the New York Times crossword puzzle, which he has done daily since his freshman year in dental school.

Rob Veis, DDS View Program Listing

Dr. Rob Veis began 24 years ago as a general dentist, and taught for twelve years at the University of Southern California as a Clinical Professor in Restorative Dentistry. Dr. Veis lectures for the AGD/California masters program. He also lectures internationally, on the integration of orthodontics and appliance therapy into the general practice on behalf of Space Maintainers Laboratories where he has been a member of the teaching staff since 1990. He is coauthor of the comprehensive textbook Principles of Appliance Therapy for Adults and Children, and author of several Practice Building Bulletins. Dr. Veis is a member of the California Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.

Raymond J. Voller, DMD, MAGD View Program Listing

Dr. Voller graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1980, and also holds a Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. He practices general, esthetic, reconstructive dentistry and orthodontics and is the owner of VollerDentistry, LLC with offices in Kittanning, PA and Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Voller has earned his Fellowships in the Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics and the Academy of Dentistry International. He is a member of the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the American Dental Association, as well as their constituent societies. Stephen S. Wallace, DDS View Program Listing
Dr. Wallace is an Associate Professor at the New York University Department of Implant Dentistry. He is a Diplomat of the International College of Oral Implantologists and a Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration. He maintains a private practice in periodontics in Waterbury, CT. Dr. Wallace is a national and international speaker on topics relating to implant dentistry. He has published numerous articles on sinus elevation surgery and the effects of biologic width around implants. He is an editor of a maxillary sinus surgery text (Italian) and has authored chapters in sinus texts in the USA. Dr. Wallace has recently published an evidencebased review on sinus elevation surgery.

Dr. Watson lectures nationally and internationally. He has taught numerous hands-on workshops and currently teaches advanced level hands-on courses. He received his postdoctoral certificate in endodontics and oral pathology as well as a master of sciences from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. He is currently assistant clinical professor of endodontics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. He also maintains a full-time private practice in Wichita, Kansas.

Mohammad Wehbi, MD View Program Listing
Dr. Wehbi is an assistant professor in the Department of Gastroenterology, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Wehbi has held various organizational positions, most recently as chairman of the Academic Committee, Atlanta Medical Center, Department of Internal Medicine, and as a medical advisor for the Young Adult Ministry of the Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta. In addition, he worked as a government liaison for medical affairs in Beirut, Lebanon. Dr. Wehbi holds memberships in various medical societies including the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the Lebanese Order of Physicians. Dr. Wehbi has received many awards in recognition of his clinical expertise as well as his presentation of research. His articles have been published in various journals including Clinical Cancer Research, Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, and the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine.

Vincent Yang, M.D., Ph.D., is the R. Bruce Logue professor of medicine and director, Division of Digestive Diseases, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA. He also holds an appointment as professor of hematology and oncology at Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute and is Director of Emory Epithelial Pathobiology Research Development Center. Dr. Yang is a renowned academic gastroenterologist with expertise in the field of colon cancer biology. He is also a clinical researcher in the area of chemoprevention of colon cancer and other GI cancers. As a clinician, he is an expert in the field of digestive diseases, including inflammatory bowel diseases, GI cancers, irritable bowel syndrome, peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and various techniques related to gastrointestinal endoscopies, including capsule endoscopy. Dr. Yang holds memberships in numerous national and international organizations and committees, is an organizer of many national and international conferences, and serves on the editorial boards of the Archives of International Bioscience and Gastroenterology, as well as consultanting for the National Institutes of Health. He is the president elect of the Gastroenterology Research Group and vice chair of the GI Oncology Section of the American Gastroenterological Association. Dr. Yang is a recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Clinician Scientist, and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Society for Clinical Investigation, and the Association of American Physicians. Dr. Yang received a B.Sc. from the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, National Taiwan University, Taipei, in 1976, a Ph.D. from the Department of Biochemical Sciences, Princeton University, in 1980, and in 1984 an M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Rutgers Medical School (now Robert Wood Johnson Medical School). He completed his internship and a residency in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was a clinical fellow in the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine, from 1986 to 1989 and a research fellow in the Department of Biological Chemistry from 1987 to 1989 at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Yang was first assistant professor, then associate professor, in the of Division of Gastroenterology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine between 1989 and 2001.

Cynthia Yellen, LCSW, MSW, MBA, RDH, BS View Program Listing
Cynthia Yellen began her dental career in the United States Air Force and attended the Air Force School of Health Care Sciences in Dental Hygiene. After her tour in the Air Force, she graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BS in Rehabilitation, and completed an MSW at Syracuse University. She subsequently completed an MBA in Health Care at Western New England College. Ms. Yellen has worked in the field of social work for more than 20 years in clinical counseling, adoption, foster placement and investigations resulting in the protection of children from physical and sexual abuse. In 2007, she graduated with a civilian degree in dental hygiene. As a Registered Dental Hygienist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Cynthia now blends Social Work and Dental Hygiene.

Douglas A. Young, DDS, MBA, MS View Program Listing
Dr. Young is an active and ardent educator in the field of minimally invasive dentistry, dental materials, and cariology. He serves on several boards and has presented at congresses around the world, including the World Clinical Laser Institute, the Academy of Laser Dentistry, the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry, as well as at several universities. Dr. Young has also been published in several peer-reviewed dental journals and textbooks. In addition to speaking and publishing, Dr. Young also conducts extensive research on minimally invasive dentistry, lasers, and cariology. He has performed clinical trials using lasers and has studied caries inhibition by laser irradiation and optical caries detection technologies. Dr. Young is an associate professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry and is also an associate clinical professor, adjunct, at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Young has a BA in bacteriology from the University of California, Berkeley; a DDS from the University of California, San Francisco; an MBA from the University of the Pacific, Stockton; and an MS in oral biology from the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Young completed a general practice residency at the VA Hospital, San Francisco, in 1982. He decided to pursue full-time teaching after 15 years of successful private practice in California. He is currently active in teaching clinical dentistry to the students at UOP and in research at UCSF.
